Serve locally

We are a church that is focused on serving — with our time, talents and money —those in the Hartsville area. Through partnerships with organizations and non-profits, we are able to help meet the needs of people in our community.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
— 1 Peter 4:10

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
— Mark 25:40

The Service Committee performs many community services. They host regular Red Cross blood drives in the MFH. When requested, they perform jobs at the Trend Hill Center and assist the Days for Girls project. The committee financially assists many community charities using money from the church budget and special gifts.

Mission

Serve globally

Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.1

FPC Hartsville answers this call to action through Missions regionally, nationally, and globally. By sharing our given time, talents, and treasure with our neighbors near and far, across geo-political and cultural divides, we build lasting partnerships, friendships and bonds that will last beyond the physical building of homes, classrooms, and water systems.

The many capable hands of FPC, young and old, have built homes in Mexico providing safety and security for young families, renovated homes in West Virginia so that homeowners could remain in their homes, provided disaster relief in New Orleans so that those displaced from the flood could return to their homes, served at a refugee camp to offer comfort and hope to those displaced indefinitely from their homes, and provided A-Team support to Thornwell and Pee Dee Coalition which provide homes  to children and families in crisis.

Missions strives to serve and work in ways that are sustaining and empowering. The water system in Sabana Larga DR provides employment, reduced cost water to several communities, free water to the elderly and allows children to attend school uninterrupted by absence due to water-born illness. Kiva micro-loans empower entrepreneurs chosen by FPC youth to build and operate their own businesses. Funding for two classrooms and scholarships have supported the mission of Mother Esther Rescue Center in Kenya where 150 Maasai girls, saved from child marriage, are gaining an education, empowerment and hope for a better future.

In Matthew 25, we recognize Christ’s urgent call to be a church of action, where God’s love, justice and mercy shine forth and are contagious.  We hope that you catch this bug and join us.
